What to do if your IELTS score is short

4 min read

A short English score is one of the most common reasons applications get postponed. Yet almost every situation has a working route.

Conditional offer

The university issues an offer on condition that you reach the required score by a set date. That keeps the paperwork moving and preserves your intake.

Pre-sessional English

A language course at the university lasting 6 to 20 weeks. On completion the language requirement is met without retaking IELTS.

The university's own test

Some institutions in the UAE, Malaysia and Europe accept an internal test. It is usually simpler in format and faster to arrange.

Changing intake

A January or May intake buys extra months of preparation. Sometimes that beats entering a weaker programme just to start in September.

Let’s look at your situation

A short questionnaire shows realistic options for your profile and budget.
